NTAA'2022
Exhibition, Crypto Miner Car • 05/02/2022
Nominated as one of the 20 finalists for the NTAA New Technological Art Award 2022, the Crypto Miner Car will be on display in Ghent at the Liedts-Meesen Foundation.
During the exhibition, the nominees will compete for the jury prize and the public prize, which will be awarded on the last day of the exhibition. The NTAA’2022 exhibition takes place from 5 February to 13 March 2022 at the Liedts-Meesen Foundation on Zebrastraat in Ghent. Each visitor to the exhibition will have the opportunity to vote.
The work speculates on the changing nature of the data economy in light of the ecological and social crisis. The piece presents a cryptomining platform with GPU units hacked to recover waste heat and fuel little electric cars, whilst crypto-currency is being mined. The car, once status symbol of modernity, acts here as a visionary trigger. Ideas about modernity are shattered and technological challenges are approached in a playful and provocative manner.
The Crypto Miner Car brings a car that moves towards a new, contemporary and disruptive form of mobility. Within the critical discourse on climate change, CO2 emissions and global warming, this work explores how the computational process and massive computing power involved in the mining process of cryptocurrencies can be deployed in the urban and social fabric, within the context of climate change.
The vernissage of the exhibition NTAA’2022 is on Friday 4 February at 6 pm. Click here to register.
